That Which I Covet Confuses Me Sometimes
I fell in love with a brushed aluminum mechanical Staedtler pencil at a convenience store Friday night. I do most of my falling in love at convenience stores so I wasn't surprised. It is very elegant in a masculine way. I have always preferred pencils over pens, though pens are nice too. For the longest time I have been foolishly tempted to pull the trigger on the Mont Blanc Starwalker A380 available from the duty free shop on-board Singapore Airlines. The Starwalker is inspired from the Airbus A380 that SQ flies between Singapore and Sydney. I say I am foolishly tempted because the Starwalker weighs in at S$1075 and who really needs a pen that costs S$1075 ?!? Especially because I would surely leave it somewhere within a month or so.
Fortunately, the mechanical pencil I fell in love with was JPY1050 (US$10), a more reasonable, though still needless, purchase. I figure I saved over a S$1000 so I even picked up a mini ruler as a companion piece for JPY100. I use straight edges all the time so really the measurement aspect of it is secondary. It all came in handy last night as I was jotting notes down in my mini Moleskine notebook during dinner. (The picture below doesn't do the pencil justice. I'll try in a different light later.)
Dinner was at Korean restaurant in Ginza. I love Korean food and this was a welcome treat. I even had a small bottle of Soju to take the edge off.
Just before reaching the restaurant, I passed through Shimbashi plaza outside the station and saw a gathering of old uncles playing Shogi (Japanese chess). Since I don't know the rules, it wasn't very exciting for me but watching the uncles was interesting.

So what is it ? - which you Covet - is it Mont Blanc Starwalker ?
And it's very new to me that you drank a Soju, as I never see you drink alcohol like that. You mostly ordered a Green tea even in the bar, that doesn't looks suit for you. :-)
